Located in the Shasta National Forest, 60 scenic miles northeast of Redding, California, between Lassen Volcanic Nat. Park, Mt. Shasta and 4 lakes.

Deep in the backcountry, secluded and private at the end of the road (4-wheel drive not needed), this charming old farm has not changed much since it was settled in the early 1890’s at the head of the creek. Guests are welcome to explore the impressive 1895 barn and 1921 log house, built from local timber without the use of power tools.   At 2400’ (740m), it is about 12 degrees cooler than in the valley.

Quiet, private garden guesthouse with kitchen, bath, and personal splash pool on 160 acres of lush forest.  Stroll pristine forest paths along our shady creek, thru the fern meadow to our little lake with dock, seats and rowboat. Revel in solitude on quiet walks through mostly level, varied forest where dogwood, moss and ferns interplay with old-growth cedar, fir, mountain oak, madrone and yew. Sample organic fruit in our orchards.   Flower displays, the whispering pines and waterfalls make it ideal for sweethearts, artists and writers.  Enjoy awesome swimming and the nearby hot springs or fishing on the beautiful Pit River.  Trails for challenging hikes or horseback rides linking up with the Pacific Crest Trail.  For the ultimate in peaceful relaxation, we accomodate only one family or group at a time.   Your well-behaved pets are welcome off leash.   Special:  15% off lodging.

HOT SPRINGS: two low-sulfur hot springs on the edge of clear mountain streams range from 2 to 5 miles away; map provided.    

      

WITHIN  EASY  DRIVES:  We give you directions for many nearby day-trips (1 1/2 hr away or less) including Lassen Volcanic National Park, McArthur Burney Falls State Park and Lake Britton, Fall River Mills golfing amid the pines, fishing on Hat Creek or the gorgeous McCloud River, Fort Crook Museum (pioneer & Indian relics), Mt Shasta Ski Park (chairlifts year ‘round), Hatchet Falls, etc.

FISHING:  fly-fishermen delight in our proximity to the forest-lined and rock-strewn Pit and Mc Cloud Rivers.  Fishing for dinner also at Iron Canyon lake.  Meals available at hours to suit fishermen; we can also cook up your catch.  Our own little lake has a few trout overlooked by the otter; catch and release here.    

FAMILY VACATION:  Free activities for kids of all ages:  fishing (we have poles and life vests for 2 children); row boating; on-property mossy forest trails range from easy, mostly level strolls along the shady creek to 2-hour paths over logs and log-bridges.  Swimming in nearby streams or at the indoor community pool; soaking in nearby hot springs; exploring the historic 1895 barn, antique farm equipment and pioneer gravesite.  Tour the old 2-story log home (logs inside and out) and our hydro-electric power plant.  Everyone loves the people-only splash pool near the guesthouse.  Possible target practice.

BACK PACKERS  and  HORSE RIDERS may start out from here on 4-day outings thru the breath-taking Shasta National Forest, along the McCloud River to McCloud, and relax in hot springs upon their return.  This is also a good starting or ending point for longer hikes on a beautiful portion of the Pacific Crest Trail.  There are several shorter hiking trails on, and leading off, the property.  Maps provided.  

GROUP CAMPING, with or without use of the guest house, is offered for reunions, father-son programs, scouts, religious retreats, etc.  With use of the guest house and camper’s bath house, we can accommodate up to 50 people.  Three sites:  Cherry Orchard site with extensive view of mountains across meadow; near bath house and guesthouse.  Fern Meadow site where Indians used to camp between shady creek and spring-fed lake; out house; 5-minutes to bath house.  Farmstead site has water and electric hookups; 2 minutes to bathhouse.    Limited time special:  15% off  listed rates

ECO FRIENDLY:  Learn how our hydro-electric power plant furnishes all our electricity from our creek.  Sheets and towels of 100% cotton, washed unscented and line-dried in the sunshine.  All cooking is done from scratch the old-fashioned way; we avoid use of aluminum & plastic.  We recycle everything possible.  There are vegetarian and vegan selections on our menu.  Our green philosophy naturally includes the organic fruits and vegetables from our gardens.  We happily share knowledge and available plant seeds. 

For your next ROMANTIC VACATION SPOT in Shasta County, meander the scenic back roads through the back woods to this secluded mountain getaway, all paved except for the last 1 ½ miles which is decent gravel; no 4-wheel drive needed.  We are at the end of the road, surrounded by national forest with no neighbors in sight.  You can count on blissful privacy shared only with nature, like a step back in time.

VACATION RENTAL:  lower rates for stays of a week or more, allowing for a complete change of pace.  Wireless internet access and phone available at the log house (no cell phone service here yet).  Internet and phone access are free to guests and are limited to reasonable amounts of time from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm with advance notice. Long calls require use of your phone card (not sold here). For extended use, the landline in the guesthouse may be activated through the phone company. 

GUIDED  EXCURSIONS:  available with request in advance.  $40 per group for full or half day excursion to:  local swimming/fishing spots, hot springs, forest walks to springs, etc.  Full-day driving excursions also available; prices vary with destination and size of party; please inquire.
 
PARTIES  &  RECEPTIONS:   use of the log house porch and outdoor party site on lawn and gravel under tall trees:  use of up to 3 BBQs, 5 picnic tables (6’- 8’ long) with moveable benches, outdoor sink and refrigerator, ice tub, table covers, bath house, electricity for music and lighting (limited), and our cleanup.    Rate:  $100 per 10-hour day for up to 25 people; $175 for 26 to 50 people.

HELICOPTER  ACCESS:  land in our 40-acre meadow just steps from our door.  Fixed-wing flyers can land at Redding Muni Airp and enjoy a ½ hr helicopter flight to Forest Springs by Air Shasta Rotor and Wing (530) 222-0100; they’ll even accommodate a medium-size pooch in a carrier.  Sights along the way include Lake Shasta, the Pit River and national forest.  Fall River Airp is 1 ½ hr drive away.  Our location is  lat  41   03.518’     lon 121   54.760’     alt  2400’    Air is usually still in the morning; afternoon breeze mostly SW.    Airport pick-up service available.
